Useful CAD Drafting and Modelling Links

Below you will find useful CAD Drafting and modelling links for design drafters and modellers.

There are so many data sources and useful sites out there, but I have thinned them out to what I find the most efficient in ‘cutting to the chase’.

WOODCO USA Single Click you have what you want – This site would have to have one of the most efficient and useful web tools for piping designers. I use it all the time and love it. The site doesn’t work well with IE, so I recommend Firefox. The only Draw down for some, may be that it is US developed so dimensions are in imperial.

PIPE FLOW CALCULATIONS Single Click you have what you want – I use this site mostly for refreshing my mind for pipe dimensions. Also includes many other single click pipe flow calcs.

ASME VALVE DIMENSIONS Single Click you have what you want – A great source for ASME Valve Dimensions, fittings, stud bolt details and numerous other great values.

PIPE DATA A great software program for quick reference dimensions of piping assembly components.

Trimble Sketchup – Previously known as Google Sketchup this is a light weight 3D modelling package primarily aimed at civil/real estate.

Draftsight – Like most they offer a free version and a professional version to cover costs. This is 2D drafting only.

Freecad – an open source CAD Software and is still under development but has a dedicated group of developers and offers both 2D and 3D modelling.

Onshape – has 3 levels available for use: Free which has limitations and paid versions: Professional and Enterprise for large business operations. This is a great facility, But it totally relies on a good internet connection and service. It is US based so in my opinion has limits for those outside the US.

AUTODESK BASIC VIEWERS Trueview, but Navisworks would be my choice here, but AutoCAD Design Review is also useful at times for 3D modelling review and marking up.

BENTLEY VIEW An extensive Bentley viewing program that can be used for measuring, search print, point cloud viewing amongst many other options.

eDrawings Viewer For use with Solidworks 3D modelling.

JETCAM CAD Viewer A light weight viewer (only 3.7MB) for viewing .dxf, .dwg, .iges and .jgf, not yet listed as compatable with Windows 10.

AutoCAD Workspace Tip How to transfer AutoCAD workspace to another computer.

Please feel free to add your own Drafting and Modelling useful links to assist all the drafters out there with your tips and tricks. Simply register and post a comment.
